How to avoid getting your phone eaten by an elephant!

Whether you are a fan of the iphone or not, you can probably agree that, while it looks chic and high-tech, it doesn’t look all that tasty. Well one elephant that is the star of the latest viral online video would disagree! In the video the hungry elephant can be seen grabbing the phone from the hands of a girl who is filming her friend feeding the cheeky animal and devouring it. It seemed that its anodized aluminium shell helped it slip straight down though, as the phone is later seen ringing, then being retrieved from a heap of dung.

Now, whether this video is a hoax or not, it still seems that the girl had it coming, waving her expensive phone in the face of an unpredictable wild animal! “I would never be so foolish” I hear you say… But would you? Hundreds of people have their phones taken straight out of their hands by opportunistic thieves every week. Mobile phone theft has risen by a staggering 25% in the last three years with, on average, 264 phone robberies reported to the police every day.

People on their phones in busy public places are easy targets and often find them snatched away before they even knew someone was approaching.

Pickpocketing is the most common form of mobile phone theft. One in six of those who have had a phone stolen say it was taken from their bag or pocket. Make it difficult for thieves to remove your phone from your person with the Mi-Zone 2-way proximity alarm.  The Mi-Zone works with your handset or tablet and can be attached to anything you consider valuable or worth protecting. You can choose from 3 security settings: Low, medium and high, depending on the range of the security zone you wish to create and as soon as your belongings move outside of the selected zone, a flashing alert and audio alarm will be activated on your screen. Just keep your Mi-Zone tag by your side or in your pocket, and it will alert you when your handset or tablet is moved away from you.  You can also use it to locate missing handset/tablet by pressing the button on the tag for 10 seconds and, as long as it is in range, the alert will activate on your phone or tablet allowing you to pinpoint its exact location.

It may not protect your phone from hungry elephants but it will give you the upper hand against an opportunistic pickpocket!

Sony unveils waterproof phone!

Have you ever dropped your phone into the bath or worse, down the toilet? Well you wouldn’t be alone!

Sony’s Xperia Z was unveiled at the Consumer Electronic Show in Las Vegas and the company claims that it will work under water for up to 30 minutes. It will work in the shower, survive a dunking in the toilet and can be given a quick rinse under the tap if it gets wet.

"If you want to want to sit in the bath and watch an HD movie this is the device for you," Steve Walker, of Sony, said.

Sony's stand at the Consumer Electronics Show, which opens today, has an Xperia Z attached to a robotic arm that repeatedly lowers it into a bowl of water.

In addition to a battery 'stamina mode', which Sony claims will double battery life, and 'one-touch' connectivity that links to the phone to a hifi, say, with one tap, the Xperia Z is also water resistant and dust-proof.

The Sony Xperia Z is only water resistant up to one metre so you won’t want to take it diving with you, but if you have ever found yourself searching desperately for a cure for a waterlogged phone after a little slip up, the Xperia Z, that will be available later this year, could be the phone for you!

Get a promotion in 2013!

2013 is here and this is the year that you are going to take control of your life, get that promotion and be the successful, confident person that you know you are meant to be! Right? The pressure of New Years Resolutions is often overwhelming… Where do you start on this epic new career path? Sometimes it can be too daunting and by the February the 1st you are back to the old routine, getting on with it and keeping your head down with a renewed sense of failure at never progressing…

But it doesn’t have to be that way! Small changes can build up to big promotions!

It is a well known fact that first impressions count- and rightly or wrongly- much of someone’s first impression of you is gathered from what you are wearing.  Which is why it is so important to project the right image when you are trying to get a new job or promotion. Here are some tips that could make a difference between promotion or demotion…

Stick to well-fitting basics in neutral colours that can easily be mixed, matched and accessorised to make different outfits.

Tailoring should be well fitting but not skin-tight and hemlines should be to the knee.

Cleavage on show is always a no-no, as are sheer blouses.

Jewellery should be simple and never noisy- stand up and shake your arms- if it jingles, take it off!

Finishing touches are important. Get your roots done regularly (if you dye your hair) and keep your nails neat. Your shoes should always be clean.

Your accessories say a lot about you- a scuffed old phone doesn’t project a very professional image. Invest in a smart leather phone case like the Fenice Black Prada iphone cover and you will look super-chic answering that phone call offering you your high-flying new job!

Make 2013 the year you take control of your blood pressure!

According to the British Heart foundation, high blood pressure is just one of the risk factors for developing heart and circulatory disease, along with high cholesterol, diabetes and other lifestyle factors.

As many as 5 million people in the UK are walking around, undiagnosed, with high blood pressure. The only way to know whether you have high blood pressure is to have it measured. Everyone should know their blood pressure. The British Heart foundation recommends that everyone over 40 gets their blood pressure taken by a nurse or doctor as part of a health check to assess their risk for getting heart and circulatory disease.

Should you find that you do have a high blood pressure, don’t panic, there are not only medications to keep it under control, but easy lifestyle changes will make a big difference.

Making sure that you are physically active and maintain a healthy diet will help you to control your blood pressure. Making sure that you get enough sleep and stay in control of your stress levels can also help.

Many of the people who end up hospitalised as a result of more serious medical conditions caused by high blood pressure, were not even aware that they had a problem until it was too late.

Being aware of your blood pressure is extremely important, especially if you are over 65, have a family history or are overweight- it could even save your life!

There are plenty of perfectly functional and reasonably priced monitors available to buy in chemist and many doctors’ surgeries offer a free blood pressure monitoring service. Ask your GP for more information.

However if you want a state of the art monitor and wish to track your blood pressure at the touch of a button then you need to look no further than this bloodpressure monitor that is compatible with your ipad, ipod or iphoneBased on the iOS operating system and Bluetooth technology, you can test, track and share your blood pressure results wirelessly with your iPod touch: iPhone and iPad. The monitor is integrated on the arm cuff and works with the Free App. It can even work out averages to see if the chances that you have made to your lifestyle or any medication that you are on is having a positive effect. This information can then be sent to family members or caregivers at the tough of a button.

Make 2013 the year that you take control of your health!

New Years Eve calls getting earlier

The Daily Mail reported recently that over the past few years the trend for sending ‘Happy New Year’ texts has been getting increasingly earlier, with the majority of revelers sending greetings to their loved ones well before the chime of midnight. In 2011, according to research carried out by Tesco Mobile, traffic peaked at 7.02pm.

This is partly down to the trend of 'broadcast text messaging' – sending the same text to your whole address book. It may also be because of the recession. People are opting for smaller celebrations with a lot staying at home to save money. As a result they're not staying up so late, so the calls and texts are getting earlier and earlier.
Fear of forgetting to call at midnight and concerns over whether loved ones will already be in bed at 12am also played a part in the trend for getting well wishing done by early and by text.
The person we are most likely to call hasn't changed though. When it comes to that one person we must wish a Happy New Year, eight in ten of those surveyed said when it came to New Year well wishing, it was their mum they called, with dad following in second place.
Simon Groves, Chief Marketing Officer, Tesco Mobile said: 'It seems our customers are doing away with the traditional midnight call and are instead texting their Happy New Year messages earlier.
'We have seen this pattern form over the last few years – no doubt in part to the recession meaning festivities have become more low key affairs at home, so revelers are likely to be hitting the sack earlier.'
Who did you call this New Years Eve? Did you send round a group text or were your texts personal and thoughtful?
